The Waste Land Part One
The first time I read the poem I read it carelessly without noticing that the first word of the next line is placed at the end of the previous line. I read it very unsmoothly because of this mistake and it did not seem as logical as when I re-read it. I read the poem too quickly and not carefully enough unlike Eliot who articulates clearly every word. He emphasized the first word of every line or phrase and I think that is why it is on the previous line, to show the reader that there should be emphasis on that word. He enjambs some of the bigger words to make the poem flow smoother like "frightened" or "forgetful". He reads the poem very monotonously which detracts from its intricate detail and carefully selected words. His reading made me understand the way he wants it to be read and explains the structure of the poem.
